The UK government has delayed the launch of its new Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) methodology until the second half of 2027, pushing it back by a year. However, this delay does not change the October 2030 deadline for landlords to meet the new Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES).
The blog post by NRLA highlights that landlords whose properties already have an EPC rating of C are in a strong position. It is recommended to check the certificate's expiry date, as a current C rating isn't guaranteed to remain a C under the new system. They describe the current period as a key window of opportunity for landlords to plan or start fabric improvements, especially since costs incurred from October 2025 will count towards the future cost cap.
